It seems like there is a sort of unwritten law when it comes to New Year’s Eve: There shall be glitter. I’m not a fan of too many sparkles [see: roller derby], but for NYE I will gladly add a few subtle shimmers. 🙂

So grab your favorite makeup, along with a few added sparkles, and let’s get to it.

Once you’ve done a bit of spot coverage, move to the eyes. I’d go with NEUTROGENA Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer (no creasing! woohoo!) in Smoky Steel for the occasion. Take the shimmer just below your brows (highlight the bone), then add the darker shades in the outside corners of your eyes for that smoky feel, and a bit more sparkle to your inner corners. I wish I could give you a tutorial for eyeliner, but the perfect cat eye still eludes me. Perhaps you can link me to your favorite cat eye tutorial? 🙂

Time to make your eyes pop! I started using a few other NEUTROGENA products about a year ago. Because they are still among my favorite items, I recently picked up a couple others at Walmart, including NEUTROGENA Healthy Volume Mascara. I love a big wand, and it comes out so clean! The mascara itself goes on easily, while also moisturizing and protecting your lashes thanks to the Olive, Meadowfoam Seed, and Sweet Almond Oils. I didn’t feel any discomfort from heavy or clumpy lashes at all. Comfortable, beautiful lashes!

Continuing down your face, apply your favorite blush along your cheekbones (or in my case, where my cheekbones should be), then move down to your lips. As I’ve mentioned before, this time of year typically calls for a darker shade, and NEUTROGENA has plenty of options. I am loving this Rich Raisin shade of the NEUTROGENA MoistureSmooth Color Stick, as well as how the Mango and Shea butter conditioned my lips feel afterwards. It reminds me of that scene in The Holiday where a little girl tells Cameron Diaz she likes her lipstick. “What’s it called?” “Berry kiss.”

Along with the sparkles on my face, I also like to include a bit of eye-catching accessories. A gold or silver headband and perhaps a necklace or earrings. I don’t normally wear glittery attire, but I saw a few NYE-esque skirts at the mall the other day that would look adorable!

Are you a fan of NYE sparkles? What is your go-to on the special night?

I probably stood in the Walmart aisle for about 10 minutes before deciding on a lip shade. 🙂 They’re so pretty!

  1. Looks great! I love wearing make-up when I’m dressing up. I love to put glitter on my Décolletage to add a bit of sparkle. I still haven’t mastered making fancy lines with my eyeliner.
