It’s tradition that every Christmas I fly to Miami, Florida
to see my family. Everyone is Cuban [surprise, surprise!], which means they are
super affectionate, and even more blunt. As soon as I walk in the door, between big warm hugs and kisses, my appearance is taken in from head to toe. Every year the family must again explain that “gordita”
is a term of endearment, but it’s a struggle to hear either way.  I have come to accept this because I love
them, plus when “gordita” comes out of my 90 year old Abuela’s mouth I can’t exactly
be angry. At least, after hours and hours of travel, I can make sure
that I don’t look so “cansada” [tired] when I arrive. Another common word – not as endearing. 🙂

I always pack a few basics in my carry-on so that as soon as
I disembark, I can wash and fix my face before heading to the luggage carousel. This
actually works out perfectly because by the time I use the facilities and get
my face ready [which only takes an additional 5 minutes], my wait time is next
to nothing at baggage claim. My family still might call me gordita, but at least I’m looking made up and happy! 🙂
Last year I was unable to redo my makeup beforehand because,
upon arriving, my cousins whisked me away to a Santa Pub Crawl! Instead of a 5
minute beauty routine, we had to get reindeer makeup on in the car! Ha! But typically,
this is not the way I see my family for the first time. 🙂 I’d never hear the
end of it!
My holiday season basics for transitioning in a hurry include:
Foundation or spot cover up, powder, blush, and the items featured
in this video:
Eye primer [a must after a long day!]
Fierce Foil Eyeliner – perfect for a sparkly cat eye to show off at a holiday party
Tuscan Toast Lipstick – a color that was made for the leaves
changing.
I purchased the Milani items at CVS the other day and have
been using at least one or two products each day [favorites: Fierce Foil and
Tuscan Toast!]. It’s love that I can conveniently find beautiful shades and products at a decent price, especially since I’ve really been trying to save lately.

It’s almost that time of year, when there are a bounty of holiday affairs to travel
between, which is why I filmed my 5 minute makeup routine in the car – because, let’s face
it, that is more realistic! This is also my typical routine if I’m headed to dinner
with my parents after a workout or dog-walk that has left my face shiny. The
only thing I left out was either washing or wiping my face clean first. My holiday additions are the Fierce Foil eyeliner [the shimmer is perfect for a party] and the darker lip. In the summer and spring months I’ll switch
to a lighter shade, but this “Tuscan Toast” is flipping gorgeous. Probably my
favorite shade this season!

How do you get ready in a hurry? Do you ever put your makeup on in the car? Hopefully you’re the passenger or it’s parked!

  1. Well now I really don't have an excuse to at least put something on my eyes and lips… I guess the more frequently you do it, the easier/faster it becomes. Thanks! The video made it less intimidating haha.
