my first book signing

to clarify, i did not sign the books. someone[s] signed my book. 🙂

but how cool would that be?!

A couple months or so ago, Kiki introduced me to an amazing time sucker blog. Amazing
because of the amount of DIY goodness, and “time sucker” because you
can plan to read an entry or two, and end up browsing the site forever without even realizing!

The bloggers of Young House Love, Sherry&John, recently released a book and Kiki and I attended the signing. 

A few days prior, I was skimming the  book for Thanksgiving break project ideas. That thing is now covered in sticky notes! I currently have 3-4 goals for the break, but in all, there are about 50-60 [out of their 243!] mini and grandiose DIYs I want to try out.

The book signing was at West Elm – great location! Even though we waited about 2 hours in line [including the 30-45 before the event started], the folks at West Elm made it pretty easy to be patient. We were offered many YHL cookies, and some delicious hot chocolate. Then, since it was John’s birthday, there was cake at the end. 🙂 Not to mention the great company and beautiful items W.E. has for sale throughout the store. Gah. Now I want to go back just to buy gorgeous Christmas decor!

I think my recent trip to Atlanta, where I semi-creeped on some famous derby girls, rubbed off.

 BUSTED.

I also creeped a photo of Sherry [she was on Kiki’s side of the line] but it came out blurry and blah. Thanks to John for not whipping out the mace once I got up to the front… 🙂

Kiki was torn about being “one of those fans” that gives Sherry and John a gift. So at the very last second, as we were walking away, she inconspicuously passed them a couple mini paintings under the table. Well, it was inconspicuous until John and Sherry displayed the cows and became extremely excited.

Kiki turned into an embarrassed tomato. It was pretty hilarious. 🙂

And the cows fit in pretty well with the reoccurring theme of Texas they’ve been experiencing.

So yes, West Elm [and Kiki!] made the wait bearable, but the folks over at Young House Love made our patience worth it. All of these factors combined, it felt like I was just hanging out with a friend somewhere that involved mostly standing. haha

Sherry and John’s genuine smiles and conversation were so sweet and refreshing. And in Kiki’s words, they are incredibly down to earth. Their’s is a success story I can definitely support.
