derby win!

Last weekend I had my first bout with the HRD Knockouts. [Not to be confused with my first bout with the Bosses] It was a huge learning experience for me [um, hey, Feisty, quit back blocking!], as well as loads of fun.
While on the road to San Antonio I mostly tried not to think of the game by reading a book. On the way back though…my carpool couldn’t stop joking, talking, it was a blast. Even though we got home at 2:30am [on a Sunday night!]. ๐Ÿ™‚

The photo above is either as I was being told to go to the box, or once I was released from the box. [pentalty box]
New information that makes more sense: the jam has just ended. Which explains why I am not skating low – as proper form requires…
 See?? BOX. hahaha Lesson learned.
[I’m on the right]
Our team did such a great job holding their jammers back.
[I’m on the left.]

I did definitely got some decent practice blocking.
[I am pink 60]

This game was a real eye opener. I don’t usually have to worry about racking up penalties, but sometimes you’ve got to adjust the way you play the game. The packs were moving so slowly initially, it felt impossible to keep from back blocking. I had 2 majors and 3 minors by the end of the first half. [4 minor penalties = trip to the box – thanks kiki!…screws up strategy with me having 3…]. And I couldn’t get my 4th minor over and done with so I could be “clean.” All that was my “learning experience” right there. I tried my best not to be too disappointed by the way I jammed. It can all be turned into a lesson… And somehow, my team voted me “Best New Knockout” – which was a HUGE and amazing surprise!

I am incredibly lucky that I get twice the practice and play time. I’m hoping to make some great improvements this season…
BIG thanks to Renee and Josh for coming out and getting some sweet shots!
[all of the above photos were taken by them]
I greatly appreciate it!

  2. You really are the coolest girl I know. My dream is to someday see you in action. IT WILL HAPPEN!

  3. I've always wanted to play Roller Derby, after I saw the movie Whip It! I AM only 14, so I'll probably have to wait a while to be able to play it, but it looks like such a fun sport! I love the second picture, such a great action shot ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Yay, derby! I am in the box with you up there. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, four minors does NOT equal a major, but it does equal a trip to the box. I think I learned this via screwing up a rules test! You did great and I wanted to see you jamming more. Boo!
