a little roller derby update :)

as many of you know, a few months ago, i started attending houston roller derby rec league practices. i could already skate, but i learned a lot of different techniques, stops, and became a lot more comfortable moving at higher speeds. i try to be pretty social at practice and have made some amazing friends 🙂
after approximately 3 months of weekly practices, i made the rec league team – the machete betties. 😀
as a member of the machete betties i can now scrimmage with the other girls. this is both extremely fun, and extremely tiring.  scrimmaging is actually what i need to work on most. i am small, so i can skate between people pretty well [for my level – i get pretty clobbered against the experienced girls!].  i think if i work on my blocking i can get really good at it. but what i KNOW i need to toughen up on is hits.  like i said, i’m pretty small, so i need a lot of technique in order to knock someone over.
i just wanted to share with anyone that has been keeping up with my roller derby updates – this is hard work. usually i don’t like to mention things i’m struggling with…but i feel like i need to be honest.
i have a lot of fun at rec league, and have even gained some confidence in myself…just by hanging out with such amazing people.
i haven’t been advancing right away, and have been made aware of areas where i need improvement. i hold back…. i’m too afraid to go all out, and i’m not sure why. but i will continue to work at it. i don’t want to give up 🙂

i hope everyone has a great holiday [if you celebrate!].
do you like my machete betties ornaments? 🙂
