my not-so-inner feisty

oh hi! how are you doing?
oh my goodness it’s kinda good to be home.  i had a great time visiting my family in miami, and will miss hanging out with them and laughing until i’m in tears, but my puppies need some lovin’ and my spirit needs some grounding. haha does that makes sense? maybe my soul needs grounding? my arms are tired? ๐Ÿ™‚

before i left for miami i finally got whip it through netflix [looong wait!].  i totally fell in love with the movie and kept talking about it while we were with our family. we were in target one day, i decided at the very last minute to buy it.  i think i watched it 4 more times [2x in a row! ha!].
it’s funny because i come off as pretty shy, but, well, my user name almost everywhere is “grrfeisty.” ๐Ÿ™‚

i don’t know how to exlpain it without coming off as a jerk or weirdo
[maybe i already come off as a weirdo ๐Ÿ™‚ ],
but i like playing rough…i pretty much always have…
i admire strong, independent women.  i try really hard to be both of these things, and this movie pretty much encompassed that.
BUT i’m not very gutsy.  i hate rejection. and crowds of people make me incredibly nervous and shy…
i visited the houston roller derby website and am trying to gather the courage to invest in a pair of roller skates [if you recall, i already roller blade a LOT]
and go at it until they have try outs again.  my sister and i even spent a couple hours last night throwing nickname options around! haha
but first, there’s a bout coming up in august, so i think i’ll check that out ๐Ÿ™‚
OKAY. yesterday i took some photographs of my cousin and her fiance in the location in which they’d like to be married next year.  let me just say that i am not at all a professional photographer and we were just goofing around.  there are millions of amazing photographs all over the net…please don’t judge my goofy amateur skillzzzz
i love the weird faces my cousin makes. isn’t she beeee-autiful?
i look forward to blogging regularly again now that i’m back home and the school year is about to start.
on the flight back home i jotted down some fun ideas for the ol’ bloggeroo! so stay tuned! there’s a giveaway, some pretty sweet sales going down, and bunches more ๐Ÿ™‚
exes and oh ohs,
your feisty little friend!
p.s. the shop has been re-loaded with goodies! check ’em out! ๐Ÿ˜€
p.p.s. or is it p.s.s.? anyways, i saw despicable me the other day…..
while the movie is okay, there are some amazingly cute/hilarious moments ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. totally loved whip it too! i would totally try out with you if i could!

your pics came out great, especially the one of them running and your cousin with her ring!

  2. jamie – thank you! haha and whip it is AWESOME.
ashley – i kept yelling "i've been there! and there!" anytime they showed places in austin ๐Ÿ˜€ and thanks! the running one was an accident that i love ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Hey Grr.

First off, you should come out to Houston Roller Derby's Rec League. You'll see 50 women who had the same fears that you do, but once they strapped on those skates together their fears escaped. Our rec league meets once a week and will prepare you for tryouts!

I'll make it a point to be there Aug 10 just for you!

PS–you already have a derby name, so that says something ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. HEY iwent to roller derby practice once but then got too busy! but if you want to go let me know and we can go the same day!!!

  5. I was also totally inspired by Whip It. I actually own roller skates and dug them out to test out my skating legs recently.

Long story short: I made a complete idiot out of myself. My husband just kept saying to me: You're doing great! Remember in the movie? She wasn't good when she started out either!

    Maybe someday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Hey, if you want you should check out

She used to be a writer for Television Without Pity and then for Samantha Who? so she's really funny, but she also skates with the L.A. Derby Dolls. If you dig through her archives she writes a lot about what it was like when she first started and could barely even stay up on her skates and takes you through how she improved, what her first bouts were like, etc. She also just recently wrote a book called Going in Circles about a woman who joins roller derby to help her work through her confusion over her impending divorce. But anyway, her blog might give you a great firsthand account of what it's like for a newbie.

No I'm not her publicist, I just think she's awesome ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. skooks that's hilarious! the first thing my boyfriend said when i expressed an interest was "you need to practice a lot" – gee thanks! hahaha ๐Ÿ˜€
thanks jamie! i'm totally bookmarking the site. and now i kinda wanna go buy the book…i'm lame and bought the whip it book, but it's definitely geared towards a younger crowd. a fun, quick read ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I'd be like Drew Barrymore's character and get hurt every single time I go out lol. Me and my Best Friend saw Whip it at the cinema.
