my apologies for the lack of updates! this week was a whole lot of insane party planning! i am one of the team leaders of etsyhouston and we threw a craft party last night [along with a million other cities! ok not sure if it’s a million…but a lot!].
panic attack!
there’s going to be a bit of a cross over because i am going to show you photographs from planning and creating the event ๐
ALSO, in less than a week i will be in GREECE. holy crap on a stick! i am EXTREMELY anxious and super nervous. do you travel a lot?? if so, what are some amazing tips you wish people had told you a million years ago?
here are my biggest fears about traveling [during tourist season]:
1. lost luggage
2. getting mugged
3. getting mugged
4. lost luggage
5. getting mugged
i know i might be insane…but those 2 things freak me out! i traveled all over europe as a child and recall multiple occasions when my dad was tricked out of money and when we were almost robbed. i am looking for a fannypack type purse that goes diagonally across my chest/waist/shoulder and not just my waist. any ideas?
ALSO, this trip is grander than any trip i have ever planned. i mean i’ve bought tickets to one location and returned from that one location…this involves planes, ferries, trains – i’m freakin’ out! and we don’t even have our sleepers reserved…GASP GASP CAN’T BREATHE. I am going to update my blog as much as possible while I am in Greece/Italy/Austria/Spain, but if you’d like to keep up with me in greater detail, I started a blog for these summer journies. Mostly because the wonderful people over at Fund for Teachers [who awarded Daniel and I the grant money for our Greece travels!] would like if we kept a blog. ๐ So ya, follow if you’d like or not – it’s your choice: greece, etc.
alright, photos of what i’ve been up to!
baking
creating new things
new specs

xoxo.
You are going to have so much fun, relax!
i love your quirky style!!
Love your number fabric and your fabulously fun cupcake styling!
I wish you safe travels to Greece and Italy and every place else you are going! Since you have my address now, I DEMAND POSTCARDS!
Word of advice on your lost luggage fear: Whatever is important to you (electronics, money, prescriptions and over the counter medications, passport, books, magazines, etc.) KEEP IT IN YOUR CARRY ON BAG. You figure if your suitcase of clothes is stolen, you still have money to purchase things if need be.
Word of advice on your getting mugged fear: Since I live in a part of the world were robbery is a constant (NYC) I say just walk like you have a purpose, keep your wallet in YOUR FRONT POCKET, and keep your head held high.
XOXO,
Danielle

I've never gone anywhere outside the country because I have the same fears. You are going to have so much fun! It'll be good because you have someone with you. ๐
I love that you are giving way a mustachasaurus!!! Those are my fave! I love the Texas one, too.
How much fun is your blog? Have a great vacation! Italy is on my must visit list.
!!! I love greece!!! I never had any problems there, or in most of europe, really. How much luggage are you taking? I would probably try to just take a big backpack that you can carry-on. I never took more than that, although I never went on a trip longer than two weeks.
Put anything valuable in your carry-on! Just pay attention and hang on to your stuff and you shouldn't have to worry too much about anything being stolen. I think pick-pocketing is more likely than mugging, and while I don't have a rec for a money pouch like you're talking about, I would carry an across-body bag which you can move to being in front of you so you can keep an eye on it.
Also, make copies of your passport and any other information you need (tickets, credit cards) and keep it at your hotel. Keep another copy in your email so you can access it from any internet cafe. That way if these things are stolen, you have all the info for everything and you can print it out.
HAVE FUN!!!

I get nervous when I travel, too! I think the best advice for a longer trip like that is to pack a few extra pairs of undies in your carry on, just in case your luggage does get lost (I really hope it doesn't!)
Another is to take a photo of your address/e-mail address to keep on your camera card just in case it gets lost. You never know, somebody may be able to contact you!
Your Etsy party looked like so much fun! I love the apron ๐
Kam
thank you for your advice, Kam! and thanks ๐ i made the apron myself! haha
1. I love your blog header.
2. I feel the same way about traveling abroad esp after seeing that scary movie (even if the boyf says I am getting too old for people to want to steal me)
You did such a great job documenting the party!
Oh WOW! Enjoy your trip!!! How exciting. I love your blog and photos!!!!
